PLEASE. I need your thoughts and opinions

A band on myspace has requested I make them some album cover art and maybe some portraits later on. It's looking like they want something more or less in the style of this piece of mine [link]

I've never been commissioned for anything like this before so I have no idea what to charge them. Not even an idea!
I don't wanna go very expensive, seeing as I don't think I'm that great and of course I actually want to do this, so I don't want them to decide to not commission me because of my snooty expensive rate. At the same time I don't want to be taken advantage of and charge them way less than what it's worth.

So how about some of you wise art peoples grace me with your opinions on the matter

have you asked them what they think would be a fair price? try that first! i think 20-25 would be a good price depending on their popularity, really. if they're going to be making thousands from selling then they can afford 30+ dollars for a cover.

I was thinking $20-$25 as well, but apparently I have no concept of the value of art because one of my friends said to ask for $90
I thought he was crazy but then another friend of mine suggested my rate be somewhere between $50-$100 depending on what I'm making and the popularity of the band.

Then I asked Peter what he thought, since he's in a fairly successful band and has experience with this kind of stuff and he told me $75 would be good and that he's paid up to $140 for artwork for his band

so in the end I told them that my rate would be around $50-$75 depending on the complexity of the work and the guy was like "sweet that's cheap!"
